Bel Lago, French Valley Vineyard Score Highly in National Wine Competition

Michigan was well represented in the by-invitation-only American Fine Wine Invitational.

Bel Lago, which produces more than 100 varieties on 37 acres in the heart of the Leelanau Peninsula, and sister vineyard French Valley Vineyards each scored highly with the judges.

The elite wine judging awards medals such as bronze, silver, gold, double gold, Best of Class, and Best of Show, while giving points based on a 100-point scale. 

The 2021 results for Bel Lago are listed below: 

  1. Auxerrois Moreno Reserve 2017: Double Gold (95 points) 
  2. Cabernet Franc 2016: Double Gold (94 points)
  3. Dry Riesling 2017: Gold (93 points)
  4. Pinot Noir 2017: Gold (90 Points)
  5. Chardonnay Reserve 2017: Silver (85 points)  

Amidst 75 acres of wine grapes and 8 acres of tart cherries for cherry wines, French Valley was awarded medals based on its:

  1. Dry Riesling 2018: Best of Class, Double Gold (95 points)
  2. Cabernet Franc/Merlot 2016: Double Gold (90 points)
